Shellstone Brushed Limestone Hexagon Mosaic Tiles 23x23

The first is joint density. A 23 mm hexagon puts roughly twice the grout line into a square metre that a two-inch one does, and a grout joint interrupts a film of water in a way a continuous surface cannot. The second is the finish. Brushing abrades the face with wire and leaves a fine, consistent tooth across every piece, so the stone itself is textured rather than smooth. Neither mechanism alone is remarkable; together they make this the obvious specification for a shower base or a wet room floor.

There is a trade-off in what can be seen. Shellstone's interest lies in its fossil content, and at 23 mm most pieces are smaller than a single shell section, so the fossils stop reading as forms. What survives is a warm cream field with a fine worked texture, quiet, and useful precisely because it is quiet beneath a more decorative wall.

Limestone is porous, and a brushed face has more surface to protect than a level one. Seal generously before grouting, and expect the first coat to disappear into the stone.
